  • Cutting weight mental advantage ?

I recently got a bad stomach flu that made it hard
For me to eat for about a week after I was done being sick .
I lost around 16 lbs and was back down to the weight when I fought last .
Even though I wasn’t sick anymore just being hungry almost all the time I was really on edge and had to apologize to some people cause I spoke to aggressively.

It just made me wonder for a young fighter maybe just having to drop that 5-6 lbs helps put you in a good frame of mind to fight someone. I had always thought the purpose of weight cutting is the physical advantage but maybe there is also a mental advantage , what do you guys think ?

In the wild a hungry animal is the most dangerous.

A hungry mouse is not very dangerous.

You have to cut weight smartly as a fighter.

Sure, fighting smaller opponents can be easier. But fighting them with no energy is not the way to step in to the competitive ring.

Fight at a weight that you are comfortable at.

    You'll find more success................Rockin'

A mouse may not be dangerous to you . But if you were mouse and had to fight another mouse for food would you rather fight a mouse that just finished lunch or one that hasn’t eaten yet today ?

Bernard Hopkins basically had to diet 24/7/365 to stay at middleweight . I think the discipline and focus that requires must translate into some kind of mental fortitude that others wouldn’t have .

That Hopkins level of dedication is very rare.

It's possible that the act of weight cutting for a fight may have a mental advantage for a fighter, as being hungry can make a person more aggressive and on edge. While weight cutting is generally done for the physical advantage of being in a lower weight class, it's worth considering the potential mental benefits as well. In the wild, hungry animals are known to be more dangerous, and this may translate to human behavior as well. However, it's important to prioritize a fighter's health and safety above any potential advantages, and to approach weight cutting in a responsible and measured way.

It's logical that it would mess with your mind. If you're under nutritioned, your autonomous systems will start kicking in.

Real cutting for professional fights mean dehydration. Water is more important than food for bodily functions. You won't survive very long without water.

It's possible that there could be a mental advantage to weight cutting in combat sports. Being in a calorie deficit and feeling hungry all the time can certainly affect one's mood and ability to stay calm and focused. However, it's important to note that extreme weight cutting can also have negative physical effects on the body, such as dehydration, decreased muscle mass, and impaired performance. So, while there may be some psychological benefits to being in a state of hunger, it's important for fighters to approach weight cutting in a safe and healthy way that doesn't compromise their physical or mental wellbeing.
