One of the fights on the televised portion of the Errol Spence Jr.-Terence Crawford undercard is set.

Lightweight contender Isaac Cruz announced through his Instagram account Thursday that he and Giovanni Cabrera have agreed to square off in a 12-round, 135-pound fight July 29 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Cruz-Cabrera will be the co-feature of Showtime Pay-Per-View’s four-fight telecast that night.

Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix first reported on Twitter recently that Cruz-Cabrera likely would be part of the Spence-Crawford undercard.

Mexico City’s Cruz (24-2-1, 17 KOs) is ranked fifth among the IBF’s contenders for one of Devin Haney’s four lightweight titles. Chicago’s Cabrera (21-0, 7 KOs) is the IBF’s ninth-rated lightweight contender.

Cruz also is rated third by the WBC and fifth by both the WBA and WBO. Cabrera is ranked ninth by the WBA and 11th by the WBO, but he isn’t rated among the top 15 contenders by the WBC.

Cruz, 25, and Cabrera, 28, will each end long layoffs when they enter the ring next month.

The rugged Cruz most recently knocked out fellow Mexican Eduardo Ramirez in the second round of their scheduled 12-rounder September 4 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Cruz dropped Ramirez (27-3-3, 12 KOs) twice in the second round before referee Jack Reiss stopped their bout on the Andy Ruiz Jr.-Luis Ortiz undercard.

Cruz has knocked out Ramirez and Cuban veteran Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-5, 18 KOs) in his two fights since he lost a 12-round unanimous decision to Gervonta Davis in December 2021 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The durable Cruz is the only opponent Baltimore’s Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) hasn’t knocked out in the powerful southpaw’s past 20 fights.

Cabrera hasn’t boxed since last July 23, when he easily outpointed Gabe Flores Jr. (then 21-1) in a 10-round lightweight bout at Grand Casino Hinckley in Hinckley, Minnesota. Cabrera beat Flores, of Stockton, California, by the same score, 98-89, on the cards of judges Tim Cheatham, John Mariano and Patrick Morley.

Cabrera is represented by Fighters First Management, the company with which Spence recently partnered.
